NORTHERN PENINSULA REGIONAL SUMMER GAMES 2004

Welcome to the Northern Peninsula Regional Summer Games website !

The Summer Games will be held in Roddickton on July 21 & 22, 2004.

The Northern Peninsula Regional Games is a project that initially began in the town of St. Anthony in 2002. The objective was to plan a series of organized sporting events that children and youth on the Northern Peninsula could participate in. While the various communities form teams that play off against each other, the event is not designed to be competitive. Children and youth participating in the events ranged in age from 8 to 18. It was anticipated that this program would enhance social relationships between children and adults on the Northern Peninsula while also improving the level of physical activity that children could participate in. At that time, organizers planned a series of sporting events for local children. Some of these events included: soccer, floor hockey, softball, etc. A meal on each day was also provided to the children free of charge, courtesy of a corporate sponsor. Neighboring communities were also invited to attend. At the conclusion of the two-day event, 80 children in four different communities on the Northern Peninsula had participated. The following year, the Regional Games were once again held in St. Anthony. However, at this event, eight communities and over 160 children participated in the two-day gathering. This year, the Games will be held in Roddickton and will be the biggest and best ever !!
